How do I request a commission?
You can submit a commission request through the commission section of the website by adding it to your cart or you can contact me directly with your idea, preferred size, medium, and any reference images you’d like me to use. Once I review your request, I’ll follow up with pricing and next steps. Before I start your commission or any sketch, a non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your spot.
Do you offer quotes before I commit?
Yes. Listed commission prices are starting estimates only. Final pricing depends on the size, materials, level of detail, number of subjects, background complexity, and overall scope of the piece. You’ll always receive a final quote before any work begins.
Do I have to pay everything upfront?
For all commissions, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking, with the remaining balance due before the finished artwork is delivered or shipped.
Why is a deposit required?
A deposit helps reserve your spot, covers planning time and materials, and protects the time set aside for your project. It also confirms that both of us are committed before work begins.
Can I make changes after the commission starts?
Minor changes are usually easiest during the early planning or sketch stage. Once a piece is already underway, major revisions may not be possible or may come with an additional fee depending on how much work has already been completed. I will update you through every step of the process to ensure satisfaction before moving on to the next step. It is important to let me know sooner rather than later if there are revisions that need to be made with drafts and colour layout. I prioritize quality and customer satisfaction in all my clients, and all projects will require confirmation before moving on to the next stage. Inconsistent communication may result in failure to complete a project within a given deadline.
How long will my commission take?
Turnaround time depends on the size and complexity of the piece, my current workload, and whether specialty materials need to be sourced. If you have a deadline, please mention it when submitting your request so I can let you know what is possible. For example, pieces larger than 11x15in will take a minimum of 4 weeks, while smaller pieces can be done in 2-3 weeks. Coloured pencil drawings, landscapes, and other detailed rendering with backgrounds will take a minimum of 4 weeks, regardless of size.
Do you accept rush orders?
Sometimes, depending on my schedule and the sizing of the piece. Rush requests may come with an additional fee starting at $20, especially if the timeline is tight or requires priority scheduling. I reserve the right to decline requests that are expecting unreasonable turnaround times. Please plan ahead if you would like a piece done before a specific deadline!
Can I cancel my commission?
If work has not started yet, cancellation may be possible. Once work is underway, refunds are limited because time, labour, and materials have already been invested into the piece.
Do you accept returns on custom artwork?
Because commissions are made specifically for the client, custom artwork is generally final sale. If there is an issue with your order, you are always welcome to contact me so I can review the situation on a case-by-case basis.
What happens if my order arrives damaged?
If your item arrives damaged, please reach out as soon as possible and include clear photos of both the artwork and the packaging. This helps me review the issue properly and figure out the best next step.
Do colours look exactly the same in person as they do online?
Not always. Colours can appear slightly different depending on screen settings, lighting, printing, and photography. I do my best to represent my work as accurately as possible, but small variations are normal.
Will you post my commission online?
I may share completed work on my website, portfolio, or social media unless we’ve discussed otherwise in advance. If your piece is meant to stay private, just let me know before the project begins.
Can I use my commissioned artwork for business or commercial purposes?
Commissioned artwork is for personal use unless commercial rights have been specifically discussed beforehand. If you need artwork for branding, merchandise, resale, publication, or business use, let me know so I can quote accordingly.
Can you recreate someone else’s art style or copy another artwork exactly?
I can work from inspiration and references, but I do not create direct copies of another artist’s original work. My goal is always to create something personal and original for you.
Do you accept every commission request?
Not always. I may decline requests that fall outside my style, subject comfort, current schedule, or capacity. This helps me make sure I can give each project the attention it deserves.
What kind of reference photos should I send?
The clearer, the better. Good lighting, visible details, and multiple angles are always helpful. The more clearly I can understand your idea, the smoother the commission process will be. If you want me to combine multiple references, please indicate that to me in your request. Please also be as specific as you can to what you want, unless otherwise specified.
Do you ship outside Toronto?
Yes, depending on the item. Pickup, local delivery, and shipping options may vary depending on the type of artwork and your location. I currently ship within Canada, and payment is accepted via secure Stripe checkout (debit/credit) or Interac e-transfer. USA and international shipping is coming soon.
Why are the prices so high?
These prices cover materials, labor, and the design process. I try my absolute best to keep my prices reasonable and accessible in proportion to my work. I believe in fairness and transparency in my pricing model, and I always consider what a customer would be willing to pay for a piece. These prices are for a limited time and may increase in the future based on demand. This is also why I offer special discounts for students—so that my art can be appreciated by all ages!
Do you offer custom prints?
The purpose of my prints is to convert existing originals into art that more people can take home. Creating a single custom print for a specific customer is unsustainable for a solo-owned business. However, I am always open to suggestions! Let me know what you want to see, and I may put out polls on my socials to see what people are interested in.
Special Note: Portraits
Please allow for extra time for portraits! This allows me to capture as many details as possible within a flexible deadline to ensure your piece is perfect.
